Pre-Med/Pre-Dent Living Learning Community

Texas State is pleased to offer a learning community for new freshmen who are  interested in attending either medical or dental school. Members of the Pre-Med/Pre-Dent Living Learning Community (LLC) live together in the Tower, a dorm centrally located on campus. The LLC members are co-enrolled in several classes together during both the fall and spring semesters. In the fall, the co-enrolled courses are Functional Biology lecture and lab (BIO 1330/1130), General Chemistry I (CHEM 1341,1141) lecture and lab, and University Seminar (US 1100). In the spring, the co-enrolled courses are Organismal Biology lecture and lab (BIO 1331/1131), and General Chemistry II (CHEM 1342,1142) lecture and lab. We believe that being in classes together helps members of the LLC improve their performance in these important science courses.

Tower Hall has a resident assistant who is dedicated to the LLC members. The resident assistant is typically an upperclassman who is also a pre-med or pre-dent student. The resident assistant can help arrange tutoring or study sessions, provide advice to LLC members, and  schedule a variety of fun and educational activities that are tailored around the common career goals of the LLC members. Activities might include things like visiting a local hospital, hospice, or dental clinic, volunteering at health fairs, and holding picnics and barbecues. The resident assistant may invite speakers to talk to LLC members (local physicians or dentists, recent graduates who have entered medical or dental schools, pre-health advisors, etc.) as well.

If you think you might be interested in applying for a spot in the Pre-Med/Pre-Dent living learning community look for the application on the Department of Housing and Residence Life Website and fill one out. After completing this initial application you will be sent a supplemental application to complete and return. The application usually goes live in January or February . Applications close on May 1 but applications are reviewed as they are received and this LLC tends to fill quickly, so it is important that you apply early.
